SANS 98
Well, I managed to get my employer to pay for a trip to SANS 98 this
year for me. Much fun, really!
I did snap some pictures of what I've been up too, and thought I'd
throw them up here. I have a few more shots, and other thoughts.
Someday, I may even get to putting them up as well.
Here I am playing with my camera
at the Monterey Bay Marina. I won't mention how many shots didn't
work out...
This is a snapshot of one of the talks at
SANS. The speaker is the (in)famous Rob Kolstad
This was a lot of fun. Rob is a great speaker.
Here we have the Vendor Ball. This is where
the great rush begins. 2000 geeks, all rushing to get all the cool
toys before the vendors run out. Personally, I got five t-shirts, a
couple pocket knives, and various other stuff. I missed out on the
office basketball set, though. The toy inventiveness was a little
low, though. Not one Slinky in the batch! Maybe next year...
I've got two notes on this picture. First,
this is a bit typical of the weather at this show. The sun is
shining, but rain just ran through town, and will probably be back
soon. Not the greatest weather here. (I was amused by the CA
residents crying about the cold, though.) Second, this is a picture
from the cisco "Hospitality Suite." I do like drinking vendor beer.
Free beer seems to taste better, somehow.
Here is another shot of the Monterey Bay
and the boats in the marina. Beautiful, with the standard rain in the
background.
Pictures of
more seals!
I suspect that these may be viewed by the locals as huge furry
nuisances. You can see from the wet dock on the right that the seals
were sprayed by a boat owner. This did encourage a couple to jump off
the dock, but several just stayed and barked all afternoon.
