Look at this one! A giant indian, used to sell skies and snowboards. I love it!
Driving down to the end of one of the points on the coast of Maine, I found
myself at a small state park. This is Fort Popham.
Here's the view of the parade ground from the top of the spiral
staircase. You can see from the last picture that they have a chain
link fence around the top of the staircase. Protecting me from
myself, I guess. I took this picture by just holding the camera over
my head and just snapping blindly. I've taken worse pictures...
This is a view from the inside of the bay this fort was to protect.
Here is a diagram of the fort as planned. (I just snapped a shot of a
display on the wall, turned out alright, eh?) Not that it was in this
shape when I got here.
In fact, this fort was staffed as recently as World War I. Not that
anyone came by. Probably just a place to get guys out of the way.
<grin>
Most of what I saw here was this. Mud flats. Lots of mud. Of
course, being an hour after low tide probably explains a bit of it...
You can see the little community. The resturant on the left is
Spinney's. Pretty good haddock.
After dinner I went for a walk on the beach. Found a cheap room
in Rockland, and will be heading back today.
See you...
